District Team Begins Six-Month Journey to Build a Culture of Peace Across Our Communities

In late May, the Rotary District 6910 Peacebuilding Committee received exciting news that could shape the future of peace education throughout our district.

District 6910 was selected as one of a limited number of teams across North America to participate in the Rotarians for Peace Design Sprint, an innovative initiative presented by the Rotary Action Group for Peace.

The program brings together Rotary leaders who are passionate about creating sustainable peace through community-driven solutions. Rather than focusing on short-term service projects, participants work through an intensive design-thinking process that transforms bold ideas into fully developed, fundable peace initiatives.

Representing District 6910 is a dedicated four-person team that has committed approximately 40 hours each over the next six months through virtual workshops, collaborative planning sessions, mentoring, research, and project development. Throughout the program, participants will work alongside experienced peacebuilding facilitators while refining their ideas through a proven framework that culminates in presenting a project ready for implementation and funding.

A Vision for Peace Education

District 6910’s vision is ambitious: to develop a district-wide peace education curriculum that grows with students throughout their lives.

The proposed initiative will introduce age-appropriate peacebuilding concepts beginning in elementary school, expand through middle and high school, and continue into young adulthood through Rotaract. The goal is to equip young people with practical skills in empathy, conflict resolution, respectful dialogue, collaboration, and community leadership, helping create a generation of citizens prepared to build stronger schools, neighborhoods, and communities.

Rather than viewing peace as simply the absence of conflict, Rotary embraces peace as the presence of understanding, opportunity, inclusion, and healthy relationships. This Design Sprint provides District 6910 with the opportunity to create a program that reflects those values while addressing real community needs.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming months, the District 6910 team will participate in six guided Design Sprint sessions while working between meetings to conduct research, engage stakeholders, test ideas, and refine the project model. The journey will culminate with a final presentation designed to secure funding and position the initiative for implementation across the district.

While the work has just begun, this opportunity represents an exciting step forward for District 6910’s commitment to Rotary’s Area of Focus in Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention.

We look forward to sharing updates as the project evolves and inviting clubs throughout District 6910 to become part of this important initiative. Together, we have the opportunity to help build a more peaceful future, one student, one classroom, and one community at a time.
