There are moments when service stops being an idea and becomes something you can see, touch, and build with your own hands. This spring, Rotary’s Disaster Relief Committee is offering not one but two opportunities to do exactly that. If you’ve been waiting for a chance to step in, step up, and make a visible difference, this is it.
Opportunity One: Restore a Community in Western North Carolina
WNC Disaster Recovery Project | Swannanoa, NC | April 17–19
Rotary District 6910 is partnering with the Rotary Club of Black Mountain & Swannanoa and local leaders to restore the Buckeye Cove Community Center, a vital space that has been deeply impacted by Hurricane Helene. Once a hub for connection, recreation, and community life, the park and surrounding green space are still largely unusable. This project is about bringing it back to life.
Why It Matters
Recovery in Western North Carolina is not a short-term effort. This project supports physical and mental well-being in the community, restores a gathering space that fosters connection, and demonstrates Rotary’s ongoing commitment to resilience and recovery.
How You Can Help
There’s a wide range of hands-on opportunities, including debris cleanup and creek bed clearing, landscaping and overgrowth removal, painting, pressure washing, and general cleanup, repairs to fences, shelters, and facilities, and building and construction projects like sheds, courts, and batting cages. Whether you can join for a day or the full weekend, your time and energy will make a real impact.

Opportunity Two: Rebuild Camp Tanglewood
Girl Scout Camp Tanglewood Service Project | Near Augusta, GA | May 6–9
Rotary volunteers from across the state will come together for a boots-on-the-ground service project focused on hurricane recovery at Camp Tanglewood. We’ll kick things off on May 6 with a $50,000 check presentation, joined by Girl Scout leadership and District Governor Jessica. Then, we get to work.
A Project with Purpose
This isn’t just about rebuilding structures. It’s about restoring a place where young leaders grow, confidence is built, and lifelong memories are made.
What We’ll Be Doing
Carpentry projects, including a pavilion or storage structure, planting shrubs and flowers, debris removal, and preparing and outfitting new cabins. No experience is required, just a willingness to serve.
A Statewide Effort
This will be a collaborative Georgia Rotary initiative, with volunteers from District 6900 and District 6920 working side by side.
Why This Spring Matters
Two locations, two projects, one shared purpose. From Swannanoa to Camp Tanglewood, these efforts reflect what Rotary does best: showing up, stepping in, and staying committed long after the headlines fade.

Mark your calendar, choose one project or both, and invite a fellow Rotarian. For the WNC project, please respond with the dates you’re available and whether you need lodging assistance. For Camp Tanglewood, volunteer sign-ups will be shared soon, and housing is available for Rotarians who would like to be matched with a host family in Augusta during the project. Because the best kind of service isn’t just given, it’s lived, built, and shared together.
