What is the Rotary Foundation?

The Rotary Foundation is the charitable arm of Rotary International. It supports thousands of humanitarian and educational projects every year—both in local communities and around the world. Funded entirely by voluntary contributions, the Foundation turns those donations into sustainable, high-impact programs that promote peace, improve health, support education, and reduce poverty.

Funding

Specifically, The Rotary Foundation relies on donations from Rotarians and their friends to three main funds:

1. Annual Fund – SHARE: This is the primary source of funding for a wide range of local and international Rotary Foundation activities. Contributions to this fund are divided into two parts: 50% goes to the World Fund and 50% goes to the District Designated Fund (DDF).
2. PolioPlus Fund: This fund is dedicated to supporting Rotary’s global efforts to eradicate polio.
3. Endowment Fund: Financed by cash gifts and bequests, this fund ensures the long-term viability of The Rotary Foundation, its grants, and programs. The principal of these gifts is never spent, but rather invested, with a percentage of the earnings directed annually to Rotary Foundation grants and programs.
