One of the things I appreciate most about Rotary is the variety of ways our clubs serve their communities. Every club sees different needs, but the response is the same: Rotarians step up, get involved, and make a difference.
This month, we want to highlight three recent projects from clubs across District 6910 that shine a spotlight on September service.
Rotary Club of Johns Creek: Snack Bags for The Place
During Maternal & Child Health Month, the Rotary Club of Johns Creek focused on an issue that can easily be overlooked: food insecurity among children.
The club gathered supplies throughout July and assembled 120 snack bags for The Place to distribute to children in need. Twenty-four Rotarians contributed 48 volunteer hours to the project.
For children who may not always have access to nutritious food outside of school, a bag of snacks can make a real difference. The club recognized that supporting children’s health isn’t only about medical care. It also means helping make sure children have the food and resources they need to grow, learn, and thrive.
It is a simple project with a very practical impact.
Rotary Club of Canton: Cancer Care Bags

The Rotary Club of Canton found another way to support members of their community during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
On September 8, 25 Rotarians came together to create Cancer Care bags for patients at Northside Hospital in Canton. The club prepared 20 bags, including supplies for patients as well as cards of encouragement.
The project provided 50 hours of volunteer service and directly benefited 20 prostate cancer patients in Cherokee County.
I especially love the personal touch of the handwritten cards. Sometimes service isn’t about doing something big. It is about reminding someone going through a difficult time that their community cares.
Rotary Club of Greene & Putnam Counties: Supporting First Call Pregnancy Center

The Rotary Club of Greene & Putnam Counties focused their September service on mothers and children by supporting First Call Pregnancy Center in Greensboro.
The club provided needed supplies along with a $1,000 cash donation, for more than $2,250 in total support. The donation will help First Call continue providing free prenatal and postpartum care to mothers and infants in need in the community.
Fifteen Rotarians contributed 45 hours to the project, which is estimated to benefit 15 people.
This is another great example of a Rotary club partnering with an organization that is already doing important work in the community and finding a way to help extend its impact.
Service Looks Different in Every Community
Three clubs. Three very different projects. One common purpose.
Whether it is putting food into the hands of a child, providing encouragement to someone facing cancer treatment, or supporting a mother and baby, these projects show what happens when Rotarians pay attention to the needs around them.
Across these three projects, 64 Rotarians contributed 143 hours of service to their communities.
That is what makes Rotary special. Service doesn’t have to look the same in every community, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with a conversation, a need someone noticed, or simply a willingness to help.
Thank you to the Rotary Club of Johns Creek, Rotary Club of Canton, and Rotary Club of Greene & Putnam Counties for putting Service Above Self into action.
